Tuberculosis Diagnosis
Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis involves several steps to confirm the presence of the bacteria causing the disease. Initially, a doctor may review symptoms such as a persistent cough, fever, or weight loss. Common tests include a skin test (Mantoux test), where a small amount of TB protein is injected under the skin, and a blood test to check for TB infection. A chest X-ray may also be performed to look for lung damage. If needed, sputum tests analyze mucus from the lungs for TB bacteria. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and preventing spread.
