Latent Tuberculosis
Latent tuberculosis (TB) occurs when a person has been infected with the bacteria that cause TB, but their immune system keeps the bacteria inactive. This means the person does not feel sick and cannot spread the bacteria to others. However, latent TB can become active TB if the immune system weakens, leading to symptoms and contagiousness. It's important for those with latent TB to be monitored and possibly treated to prevent the disease from developing. Testing for latent TB is crucial for early intervention, especially in people at higher risk of progression.
