TSC1

TSC1 is a gene that produces a protein helping regulate cell growth, division, and survival. It works as part of a natural brake system, preventing cells from growing too quickly or uncontrollably. When TSC1 functions properly, it keeps cell growth in check by controlling a pathway called mTOR, which promotes cell growth and metabolism. If TSC1 is mutated or doesn't work correctly, this regulation can fail, leading to excessive cell growth and tumor development, as seen in a condition called tuberous sclerosis complex.
