Leon Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary and Soviet political leader who played a key role in the 1917 Russian Revolution, which overthrew the monarchy and led to the creation of the Soviet Union. He was a close collaborator of Vladimir Lenin and helped establish the Red Army. Trotsky advocated for permanent worldwide revolution, believing socialism needed to spread globally. After Lenin’s death, he was ousted by Joseph Stalin, leading to his exile and eventual assassination in 1940. Trotsky remains a significant figure in Marxist thought, known for his ideas on revolutionary strategy and opposition to Stalin’s authoritarianism.
