Tritone

A tritone is a musical interval spanning three whole tones (six semitones). It’s known for its distinctive dissonance and tension, often creating a sense of instability or craving resolution within music. For example, the interval between the notes F and B in the C major scale is a tritone. Historically, it’s been called "the devil's interval" because of its dissonant sound. In harmonic progressions, a tritone often resolves to more stable intervals, like moving from F and B to C and E, creating a pleasing sense of closure. It plays a crucial role in jazz, classical, and popular music for adding tension and color.
