Tribunal Penal Internacional para Ruanda
The Tribunal Penal Internacional para Ruanda, also known as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), was a court established by the United Nations in 1994 to prosecute individuals responsible for the genocide and serious crimes committed during the Rwandan genocide. It aimed to deliver justice for atrocities such as mass killings, sexual violence, and crimes against humanity, ensuring accountability and promoting reconciliation. The ICTR operated until 2015, handling cases against high-ranking officials and others involved in the violence, thereby contributing to international efforts to combat impunity for mass atrocities.
