Treaty of Wallingford

The Treaty of Wallingford, signed in 1153, was an agreement that ended the civil war known as The Anarchy in England. This conflict was mainly between supporters of King Stephen and those of his rival, Empress Matilda, over the English throne. The treaty established peace by recognizing Stephen as king, while promising that after his death, the crown would pass to Matilda's son, Henry Plantagenet. This paved the way for the eventual unification of the kingdom under Henry II, marking a significant shift in English royal succession and helping to stabilize the country.
