Treaty of Sharjah

The Treaty of Sharjah was signed in 1971 between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran, settling territorial claims over three islands—Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa—located in the Persian Gulf. Iran has effective control over these islands, but the UAE claims sovereignty based on historical and legal grounds. The treaty aimed to define boundaries and improve relations, though the sovereignty dispute remains unresolved and continues to influence regional tensions. It reflects efforts at diplomatic dialogue while the underlying sovereignty issues persist.
