Transgender
Transgender refers to individuals whose gender identity—their deeply felt internal experience of gender—differs from the sex they were assigned at birth based on physical characteristics. For example, someone assigned male at birth may identify and live as a woman, or someone assigned female may identify as a man. Being transgender is about authentic self-identification and identity, which may involve social, medical, or legal changes to reflect who they truly are. It is an important aspect of personal identity, deserving of respect and understanding.
