Transformational Grammar
Transformational Grammar, developed by linguist Noam Chomsky, is a theory about how humans understand and produce language. It suggests that beneath the surface form of sentences, there is an underlying structure called "deep structure" that captures their core meaning. Transformations are rules that convert this deep structure into various surface forms or sentences, accounting for different ways ideas can be expressed. This framework helps explain the flexibility and creativity of language, showing that despite many ways to say something, they all share a common underlying structure.
