Transesophageal Echocardiogram

A transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is a diagnostic test that uses sound waves to create detailed images of the heart. During the procedure, a flexible tube with a tiny ultrasound device at the tip is guided down your throat into the esophagus, which is close to the heart. This placement allows doctors to see the heart’s structures clearly, helping to detect problems such as blood clots, leaks, or abnormal heart chambers. TEE provides more precise images than other echocardiograms, especially for evaluating the heart’s back parts and valves, aiding in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
