Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe aortic valve narrowing (stenosis). Instead of open-heart surgery, a doctor inserts a thin tube (catheter) through a blood vessel, usually in the leg, guiding a new valve to the heart. The new valve is then positioned inside the existing damaged valve, allowing blood to flow properly. TAVI is beneficial for patients who are at high risk for traditional surgery, offering a quicker recovery with less discomfort and fewer complications. It effectively restores normal heart function in those with narrowed aortic valves.
