Transaminases

Transaminases are enzymes in the body that help with the process of converting amino acids—the building blocks of proteins—into other molecules needed for energy and function. They play a key role in liver health. When the liver is damaged or inflamed, levels of transaminases in the blood can increase, indicating potential liver issues. Blood tests measuring enzymes like AST (aspartate aminotransferase) and ALT (alanine aminotransferase) are commonly used to assess liver function and detect liver diseases. Elevated transaminases suggest that liver cells may be injured or stressed.
