Tractarian Movement
The Tractarian Movement, also known as the Oxford Movement, began in the 1830s in England. It aimed to revive the Anglican Church's Catholic heritage by emphasizing traditional liturgy, church authority, and sacraments. Its leaders sought to reconnect Anglicanism with the early Christian church and resist modernization that they believed threatened doctrinal integrity. The movement produced a series of writings called "Tracts for the Times," advocating for a more traditional, sacramental, and hierarchical church. While controversial, it significantly influenced the Anglican Church’s development and helped inspire Anglican spirituality and identity.
