Tonantzin
Tonantzin is a deity from Aztec mythology, embodying the Earth Mother and nurturing forces of nature. Her name means "Our Mother," reflecting her role as a nurturing, life-giving figure. Originally, she was honored as a universal mother goddess associated with fertility, agriculture, and the Earth's sustenance. After the Spanish conquest, her image merged with the Catholic Virgin of Guadalupe, symbolizing continuity and cultural resilience among Mexico’s indigenous and Catholic traditions. Today, Tonantzin remains an important cultural and spiritual symbol for many Mexicans, representing the deep connection to the land, motherhood, and ancestral heritage.
