Tinea Infections
Tinea infections, commonly known as ringworm, are fungal infections that affect various parts of the body, including the skin, hair, and nails. They are caused by different types of fungi and can lead to itchy, red, and scaly patches on the skin. These infections are contagious and can spread through direct contact or contaminated surfaces, such as gym mats or swimming pool areas. Common types include tinea corporis (body), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), and tinea capitis (scalp). Fortunately, tinea infections are typically treatable with antifungal creams or medications.
