Timber rattlesnake

The timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) is a venomous snake native to eastern North America. Recognizable by its thick body, reddish-brown or gray coloring, and distinctive dark, V-shaped or zigzag pattern along its back, it typically grows 3 to 5 feet long. It uses its venom primarily to subdue prey such as small mammals and birds and has a warning rattle at the tail’s end. Timber rattlesnakes prefer forested areas, rocky hills, and open woodlands. While venomous, bites are rare and usually occur if the snake is provoked; medical attention ensures safe treatment if bitten.
