Tigrinya Language

Tigrinya is a Semitic language primarily spoken in Eritrea and northern Ethiopia by around 7 million people. It uses a unique script called Ge'ez or Ethiopic, which is also used for religious texts and other local languages. Tigrinya has complex verb structures and rich phonetics, reflecting its ancient roots. It plays a vital cultural and communication role for Tigrinya speakers, encompassing everyday conversation, literature, and religious practices, especially within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. As a vital regional language, Tigrinya also contributes to Ethiopia and Eritrea’s diverse linguistic landscape.
