The thyroid is controlled by the brain's pituitary gland, which signals it to produce hormones based on your body's needs. Proper thyroid function is essential for overall health, and imbalances can lead to conditions like hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
