Thracian Wars
The Thracian Wars were a series of conflicts in the 1st century BCE between the Roman Republic and the Thracian tribes in the Balkans. Rome aimed to secure its eastern borders and control trade routes, ultimately expanding its influence into the region. The wars involved military campaigns led by Roman generals such as Lucius Licinius Lucullus and Gaius Marius, resulting in the defeat of Thracian tribes and their incorporation into the Roman provincial system. These conflicts contributed to Rome’s consolidation of power in southeastern Europe and the decline of Thracian independence.
