Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford (historical figure)

Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford (1593–1641), was an influential English statesman and advisor to King Charles I. Known for his strong belief in royal authority, he sought to strengthen the monarchy’s power during a tumultuous period leading up to the English Civil War. Strafford managed royal policies and finances but faced fierce opposition from Parliament. Accused of abuse of power and aiding autocratic rule, he was eventually impeached and executed in 1641, becoming a symbol of the tension between royal authority and parliamentary rights in English history.
