Thomas Savery
Thomas Savery was an early English inventor and engineer who, in 1698, developed one of the first practical devices to pump water out of mines. His invention, known as the Savery engine, used steam pressure to create a vacuum that lifted water, helping miners remove flooding water more efficiently. Although it was limited in power and eventually replaced by more advanced steam engines, Savery's work was a key step in the development of steam technology, contributing to the industrial advances that shaped modern engineering and energy use.
