Thelyphonidae
Thelyphonidae, commonly known as whip scorpions or vinegaroons, are arachnids related to spiders and scorpions. They have elongated, whip-like tails and large pincer-like pedipalps used for capturing prey. They are generally harmless to humans, feeding mainly on insects and small invertebrates. Whip scorpions are nocturnal and prefer dark, humid environments like caves or under logs. Unlike true scorpions, they do not have venomous stingers but can spray a vinegar-like chemical from their tail as a defense mechanism, which is where the name "vinegaroon" comes from. They are important predators in their habitats.
