Theist Evolutionary Theory

Theist Evolutionary Theory is the belief that God created life, but that this creation process involved evolution. Supporters see no conflict between scientific evidence for evolution and their faith. They propose that while natural processes like natural selection explain biological changes over time, God guided and infused purpose into this process. Thus, life’s diversity is the result of both divine intention and scientific mechanisms, allowing for a harmonious relationship between religious beliefs and evolutionary science. This view emphasizes that faith and reason can coexist, providing a broader understanding of the origins of life.
