The Whole Tone Scale

The Whole Tone Scale is a musical scale in which each note is separated by a whole step, meaning there are no half steps or semitones. This creates a distinctive, dreamy, and somewhat ambiguous sound because it lacks the usual tension and resolution of traditional scales. It consists of six notes per octave, each a whole tone apart, repeating the pattern as it cycles. The scale is often used in jazz, impressionist music, and for creating a surreal or floating atmosphere, owing to its symmetrical and evenly spaced intervals.
