“The Townsends”

"The Townshend Acts" were a series of laws passed by the British Parliament in 1767 that imposed taxes on various everyday goods imported to the American colonies, such as tea, glass, and paper. Named after Charles Townshend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, these acts aimed to raise revenue to pay British officials in America. The colonists opposed these taxes, viewing them as a violation of their rights since they had no representation in Parliament. This resistance contributed to growing tensions that eventually led to the American Revolution.
