The Taft Commission

The Taft Commission was established in 1900, following the U.S. acquisition of the Philippines after the Spanish-American War. Led by William Howard Taft, its purpose was to reorganize the Philippine government and improve governance. The commission aimed to promote civil government, enhance infrastructure, and address social issues. It introduced reforms like education, public health, and infrastructure development. The Taft Commission laid the groundwork for the eventual establishment of a more autonomous Philippine government, reflecting U.S. interests while also addressing the needs of the Filipino people.
