The Special Composition Question
The Special Composition Question asks whether a whole object has the same properties as its individual parts. For example, if a puzzle is complete, does the whole puzzle share all the properties of its pieces? It raises the issue of whether properties of parts—like the color or shape of puzzle pieces—apply to the entire object they make up, or if the whole can have different qualities. This question addresses how we understand the relationship between parts and wholes, especially in complex objects or systems, and whether properties are inherited from the parts or can emerge uniquely at the whole level.
