The Solemn League and Covenant
The Solemn League and Covenant was an agreement made in 1643 during the English Civil War between the English Parliament and the Scottish Covenanters. It committed both sides to a united effort to reform religion in England and Scotland according to Protestant principles, particularly Presbyterianism. In return, Scotland agreed to send troops to support Parliament against King Charles I. The covenant aimed to preserve Protestantism and establish a standardized church system across the nations, influencing the political and religious landscape during the conflict and shaping the future of the British Isles.
