The Second International

The Second International was an organization of socialist and labor parties founded in 1889, mainly in Europe. It aimed to promote international cooperation among workers to achieve political and economic reforms. The group emphasized class struggle and worked to unite socialists against capitalism and imperialism. It organized international socialist congresses, but its influence declined before World War I, partly due to differing strategies among member parties. The Second International is significant as it laid the groundwork for later socialist movements and the eventual establishment of the communist parties and the Third International after the Russian Revolution.
