The Royalist
The Royalists were supporters of the monarchy during periods of political conflict in England, particularly during the English Civil War (1642–1651). They believed in maintaining the king's authority and opposed those seeking parliamentary or democratic control. Royalists supported King Charles I and his successors, advocating for the traditional royal powers and hierarchy. Their opponents, the Parliamentarians, wanted to limit or remove royal influence. The term “Royalist” highlights allegiance to the monarchy’s authority, and their defeat led to a temporary abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic under Oliver Cromwell.
