The Propaganda Model

The Propaganda Model, developed by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky, explains how media operates in ways that serve powerful interests, rather than providing unbiased information. It suggests that news is influenced by economic and political factors, often favoring elites and corporations. The model identifies five filters: ownership of media, advertising pressures, sourcing of information, flak (negative feedback), and ideology. Together, these filters shape the news we receive, leading to a narrow range of viewpoints, and often sidelining critical or dissenting voices. This process affects public perception and understanding of important issues.
