The Pirate Code refers to a set of unofficial rules and guidelines that governed the behavior of pirates during the Golden Age of Piracy (approximately 1650-1730). Each pirate crew often had its own version, but common principles included sharing loot equally, maintaining democratic decision-making, and ensuring fair treatment of crew members. These codes helped establish order and accountability among often unruly men at sea. The most famous example is the "Articles of Agreement," which outlined punishments for misconduct and rights to booty, promoting a sense of community and discipline on pirate ships.
