The Oslo Accords

The Oslo Accords are agreements made in the 1990s aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They established a framework for limited Palestinian self-governance in parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with the hope of progressing toward a two-state solution. The accords involved secret negotiations leading to mutual recognition: Israel recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the representative of Palestinians, and the PLO recognized Israel’s right to exist. While they created a foundation for peace efforts, many disputes remained unresolved, and the accords did not lead to a final settlement.
