The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is a U.S. government agency responsible for ensuring the safety of motor vehicles and road users. It sets and enforces vehicle performance standards, investigates crashes, and promotes safe driving practices. NHTSA also manages vehicle recalls and collects data on traffic accidents to help improve transportation safety. Its goal is to reduce injuries and fatalities on American roads through regulation, research, and public education.
