The Moynihan Report

The Moynihan Report, officially titled "The Negro Family: The Case for National Action," was a 1965 study by sociologist Daniel Patrick Moynihan for the U.S. Department of Labor. It examined the issues facing African American families, particularly the impact of poverty and systemic inequality. Moynihan argued that the breakdown of the black nuclear family, characterized by high rates of single motherhood, was a key factor in the cycle of poverty. The report sparked debate over family structure, race relations, and welfare policies, highlighting the need for government intervention to address social injustice and economic disparities.
