The Merry Pranksters
The Merry Pranksters were a group of friends led by writer Ken Kesey in the 1960s who promoted alternative lifestyles and experimental culture. They became famous for their cross-country trip in a painted school bus called "Furthur," during which they engaged in spontaneous, often psychedelic-based, adventures aimed at expanding consciousness and challenging societal norms. Their activities helped shape the 1960s counterculture movement, emphasizing free expression and social change. The Merry Pranksters also organized the famous 1964 Acid Test events, which combined music, art, and LSD use to create immersive, mind-expanding experiences.
