The Maya

The Maya were an ancient civilization that flourished in Mesoamerica, particularly in present-day Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras, from around 2000 BC to the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. They are known for their advanced achievements in architecture, mathematics, astronomy, and writing. The Maya built impressive cities with pyramids and temples, created a complex calendar system, and developed a hieroglyphic script. Their society was organized into city-states, each ruled by a king. Despite facing challenges such as drought and warfare, the Maya left a lasting legacy that influences culture and scholarship today.
