The Mandela Effect
The Mandela Effect refers to the phenomenon where a large group of people remembers an event or detail differently than how it actually occurred. The term originated from many people mistakenly believing that Nelson Mandela died in prison in the 1980s, when he actually passed away in 2013. This collective misremembering can be attributed to the way memory works, influenced by social interactions, misinformation, or cultural references. It highlights the fallibility of human memory and how our perceptions can be shaped by shared beliefs or experiences, sometimes leading to an alternate version of reality.
