The Lost Colony
The Lost Colony refers to the mysterious disappearance of a group of English settlers established by Sir Walter Raleigh on Roanoke Island, in what is now North Carolina, around 1587. When a supply ship returned in 1590, the settlers had vanished without clear explanation. The only clue was the word “Croatoan” carved into a post. Historians believe they may have moved inland or been wiped out by conflict, but the exact fate remains unknown, making it one of North America’s oldest unsolved mysteries.
