The Kingdom of Denmark and Norway
The Kingdom of Denmark and Norway refers to a historical union that lasted from 1380 to 1814, where both kingdoms were ruled by the same monarch. Originating from shared Viking heritage, they were united under King Hans and later King Christian IV. The union functioned well for trade and cultural exchange but faced challenges, especially during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1814, following Denmark's defeat, Norway entered a separate union with Sweden. Today, Denmark and Norway are independent nations, both known for their strong economies, beautiful landscapes, and rich histories.
