The Jacobite Revolts

The Jacobite Revolts were a series of uprisings in Britain between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, aimed at restoring the Catholic Stuart monarchy, particularly James II and his descendants, to the throne. After James II was deposed in 1688, his supporters, called Jacobites, opposed the Protestant ruling dynasty and sought to reinstate the Stuarts. The most notable revolts occurred in 1715 and 1745, culminating in the Battle of Culloden. These conflicts reflected deep religious, political, and dynastic divisions, ultimately leading to the loss of Jacobite hopes and strengthening the Hanoverian monarchy.
