The Intersex Society of North America

The Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) was an organization founded in 1993 to advocate for intersex individuals—people born with variations in sexual anatomy, chromosomes, or hormones that do not fit typical definitions of male or female. ISNA aimed to raise awareness, promote understanding, and challenge medical practices that often involved unnecessary surgeries on intersex infants. The society worked to support intersex rights, encourage better medical care, and foster acceptance. Although it disbanded in 2008, ISNA played a key role in advancing intersex visibility and rights in North America.
