The Implicit Association Test (IAT)
The Implicit Association Test (IAT) is a psychological tool that measures unconscious biases by assessing how quickly individuals associate different concepts, such as race or gender, with positive or negative words. During the test, people sort words or images into categories as fast as possible. Faster responses between certain paired categories suggest a stronger automatic association. The IAT reveals underlying attitudes or stereotypes that individuals might not be aware of or openly endorse, providing insights into implicit biases that can influence behavior and decision-making.
