The Hadean Eon
The Hadean Eon is the earliest period of Earth's history, spanning from about 4.6 billion to 4 billion years ago. It began with the formation of the Earth itself and is named after Hades, reflecting its hot and hellish conditions. During this time, the planet was mostly molten, with volcanic activity, frequent asteroid impacts, and no stable surface. Gradually, the Earth cooled, leading to the formation of a solid crust, oceans, and the early atmosphere. The Hadean sets the stage for the development of life and the subsequent geological eras that shape our planet today.
