The Granger Movement

The Granger Movement was a late 19th-century farmers' advocacy group in the United States, originating around 1870. Named after Oliver H. Kelley, it aimed to support farmers by promoting fair railroad rates, better access to storage facilities, and economic cooperation. The movement sought to combat the economic hardships faced by farmers due to monopolistic practices and unfair shipping costs. Although it initially focused on education and social networking, it later became involved in political activism, influencing the rise of the Populist Party. The Granger Movement played a significant role in advocating for farmers' rights and rural economic reforms.
