The Galtung Prism

The Galtung Prism is a framework developed by Johan Galtung to analyze conflicts by considering three interconnected levels: attitudes (how people feel and perceive others), behaviors (actions taken by parties), and structure (underlying social, economic, and political systems). It helps to see conflict not just as immediate violence but as rooted in deeper issues. By addressing all three levels—changing perceptions, stopping harmful actions, and reforming unfair structures—conflicts can be more effectively understood and resolved. This holistic approach encourages comprehensive strategies for peacebuilding.
