The Fronde

The Fronde was a series of uprisings in France between 1648 and 1653, resulting from discontent with the centralizing power of King Louis XIV and his advisors. It involved both nobles and common people who opposed high taxes and royal authority. The term "Fronde" means "sling" in French, symbolizing the rebellious spirit. These conflicts highlighted the struggle between the monarchy and the aristocracy, ultimately leading to increased royal power. Although the Fronde failed to overthrow the monarchy, it shaped Louis XIV's reign, pushing him to strengthen his control and establish an absolute monarchy.
