The Dano-Norwegian War

The Dano-Norwegian War of 1848-1849 was a conflict between Denmark and Norway, two countries united under a single crown. Tensions arose over issues of independence and political control as Norway sought greater autonomy. The war resulted from Denmark's attempt to assert more influence over Norway, leading to military clashes. Ultimately, the conflict ended with the Treaty of Kiel in 1850, which confirmed Norway's independence from Denmark, although physical separation and full independence took additional years to establish. The war marked a significant step toward Norway's national self-determination.
