the Dada movement
The Dada Movement emerged in the early 20th century as a reaction to the horrors of World War I. Artists and writers rejected traditional artistic values and conventions, embracing absurdity and chaos to challenge societal norms. They used collage, ready-mades, and performance art to express disillusionment with politics and culture. Dadaists believed that art should provoke thought and question reality, rather than simply pleasing the senses. This avant-garde movement laid the groundwork for later art styles, including Surrealism, and continues to influence contemporary art and culture by encouraging experimentation and questioning established beliefs.
